The Time to Act is Now!

ACT

“When a problem exists, whether in personnel or in business operations, the time to act is now.”
— Warren Buffett

If taking quick action is wiser than pretending problems don’t exist, why do so many people hesitate when things aren’t working?

Over the years coaching individuals and teams, I’ve noticed that most people delay addressing problems for just a few key reasons:

  1. They hope the issue will resolve itself.

  2. They don’t know what to do.

  3. They fear the solution will be more painful than the problem.

  4. They convince themselves it’s not really a problem.

Let’s break these down one by one.

1. Hoping the Problem Will Fix Itself

Let’s be honest—most of us have tried this approach. I know I have. But in my experience, problems rarely go away on their own. More often, they grow into bigger, messier issues. What could’ve been resolved quickly ends up consuming far more time and resources than necessary.

If this sounds familiar, you might enjoy Mel Robbins’ 5 Second Rule—a great reminder that action beats hesitation every time.

2. Not Knowing What to Do (and Not Wanting to Admit It)

Many people in leadership positions believe they’re supposed to have all the answers. But that’s simply not true. Every role, especially leadership, comes with a learning curve.

Great leaders aren’t those who know everything—they’re the ones who ask smart questions, seek input, and surround themselves with capable people. Asking for guidance isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength.

3. Fear of the Unknown

Change always carries risk. Some people focus on what could go wrong. Others choose to focus on what could go right.

Of course, not every decision will be perfect. But if we gather the right information and plan thoughtfully, we can reduce risk and move forward with confidence. Staying stuck guarantees more of the same. Taking action—even imperfect action—creates momentum.

4. Seeing the Problem Through Rose-Colored Glasses

Some leaders downplay issues, even when the consequences are clear. They’ll say, “It’s not that bad,” even when it’s very bad. Sometimes it’s fear of failure; other times, it’s just denial.

But here’s the truth: Everyone makes mistakes. The only people who don’t? Those who never try. Trial and error is part of progress. If we learn and improve, then we haven’t failed—we’ve grown.

So… What Needs Your Attention Right Now?

Chances are, there’s at least one thing in your business or personal life that could use action. Remember: waiting often creates unnecessary stress. Life brings enough of that on its own—don’t add more by avoiding what needs to be done.

I encourage you to pick one thing today—just one—and take a step forward.

The time to act is now.

Wishing you progress and peace in whatever area you choose to move forward in today.
